Privacy Policy for Jibber

Jibber is a voice recorder for songwriters. It is built so that your musical ideas stay yours. Your recordings live on your device and in your own private iCloud, and there are no accounts, no tracking and no advertising.

This policy explains exactly what is stored, where, and why.

In short

• No account, no sign-up. Jibber never asks for your name, email address or a password.
• Your recordings never touch our servers. They stay on your device and sync through your own iCloud account, which only you can access.
• Transcription happens on your device. Your audio is never uploaded for transcription.
• No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no data selling. Ever.
• The only thing stored on our own server is the shared lyrics of folders you deliberately share with a co-writer (see below).

What Jibber stores, and where

On your device and in your private iCloud

• Audio recordings you make or import, plus their titles, dates, star ratings and markers.
• Transcripts of your recordings.
• Folders and their notes.

This data is synced with Apple's iCloud using your own Apple Account, so it is available on your other devices. It is stored in your personal iCloud container. We have no access to it and cannot read it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

When you share a folder with a co-writer, that folder (its recordings, markers and transcripts) is placed in a shared iCloud area that you and the people you invited can access. This remains within Apple's infrastructure and does not pass through us.

On our server (only for shared folders)

Jibber lets co-writers write lyrics together in real time. To make that possible, the notes of a shared folder are stored on our server, hosted by Supabase in the European Union.

• Notes of folders that are not shared are never sent to our server. They stay on your device and in your iCloud.
• Stored for a shared folder: the note's text, the document history needed to merge simultaneous edits, the first name shown to your co-writers (taken from your iCloud sharing profile, or otherwise your device name), and a timestamp.
• Access requires knowing the folder's unique, unguessable identifier, which only people you invited through iCloud receive. The data cannot be listed or browsed by anyone else.
• Deleting the folder deletes its notes from our server.
• We never store your audio, your transcripts or any identifier that links a note to you personally.

Anonymous device identifier

To tell co-writers apart while typing, Jibber generates a random identifier on first launch and keeps it on your device. It is not linked to your name, email, Apple Account or any advertising identifier, and it is not used for tracking.

Permissions Jibber asks for

• Microphone is used to record audio. Only while you are recording.
• Speech recognition turns recordings into searchable text. Jibber forces Apple's on-device recogniser, so audio is not sent anywhere for this.

You can withdraw either permission at any time in iOS Settings.

Diagnostics

Jibber keeps a small local log of technical problems (for example a failed sync), containing error descriptions, the app version, your iOS version and your language setting. It never contains audio, transcripts or lyrics. This log stays on your device and is only ever sent to us if you choose "Send diagnostics" yourself and pick where to send it.

Update check

Once a day, Jibber asks Apple's public App Store lookup service which version of Jibber is current, so it can tell you when an update is available. This request contains only the app's identifier. No personal data is sent.

Payments

If you subscribe to Jibber Pro, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We never see or receive your payment details. Jibber only asks Apple whether an active subscription exists. Manage or cancel your subscription any time in iOS Settings, or from within the app.

Your rights

Because Jibber holds no account data, most of your data is under your direct control:

• Access and portability: every recording can be exported as an m4a file from the app.
• Deletion: deleting a recording or folder removes it from your device and iCloud; deleting a shared folder also removes its notes from our server. Deleting the app and its iCloud data removes everything.
• Additional requests: if you have questions or want data removed that you cannot remove yourself, contact us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.

Under the GDPR, the legal basis for storing shared-folder notes is the performance of the service you asked for (Article 6(1)(b)).

Children

Jibber is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top is updated. Material changes will be announced in the app's release notes.
